Left result in here as I find calling an all-in with the nuts is usually a profitable play for most people. Quads again - easy game poker when you hit hands like last two.
Ok saved the most interesting one for last. Some history here. Drogba has re-raised my raises making me fold a couple of times. He moves at any pot no-one seems to want and has been ultra aggro bullying everyone and racking up a few dollars in doing so. I decide it is time to set a bear trap.

He was felted not too long after. Thought he had an Ace minimum there but he was just a terrible player.
Comments welcomed and your river play for first two. Finished up in cash games around US$26 up I think.

Sit n Folds
3 games over the weekend. Finished in the money in two.
First one proved very tough when down to four. Everyone took turns making the all-in play with blinds making up a sizeable % of stack. Over 30 uncalled all-ins with everyone looking for someone else to risk a bubble showdown Eventually two opponents get all in and bigger stack triumphs. In the money but do a rare misclick and end up with an unintended all-in being called which I am behind in AQ v K6 which I lose.
The middle game I got too engrossed in the concurrent cash game and auto-folded beyond the point I normally would. Ended up with 1,000 stack and 100/200 blinds. Started stealing blinds but got called with a mediocre raising hand. Ended up in a race with a small pair and lost.
Folded my way to this spot in third game. Here is the hand that got me in the money in the third game. Folding q2 off. Not that hard.

Interactive question: Anyway play it badly?
Colobadoul gives his stack away to jonorro shortly after leaving me second hardly having played a hand. Get my stack up to 4,000 but end up with A3 suited against JJ with Jacks holding up.
For SnG's my ITM% stands at 66.6 and ROI%(return on investment) at the same figure. Probably too good to keep those figures up.

Monday Morning Roll-call
So how do the bank-rolls stack up on Monday Morning after a weekends's play then?
1) Deadly US$990 (US$110 down).
2) Phillberto US$579 (US$50 up)
3) Moocher US$514 (US$4 up)
4) Bigshotbog US$270 (no change)
Deadly
A losing weekend session cuts his stack below the US$1K mark. Even after discovering and winning at a rock, scissors paper game on Ultimate Bet the bankroll takes a surprise tumble. His first losing week so far on the back of five winning weeks since we started keeping records.
Phillberto
With 1st birthday parties to attend and a football title to clinch poker had to take a back seat. Managed only three SnG's over the weekend and around 2 hours of triple tabling cash action at 10NL.
I'll post some hands seperately.
US$50 up for the week but a healthy return on very few table hours chalking up the sixth straight winning week.
Moocher
Racking up a huge amount of SnG games Moocher was happy to see an early spike in his fortunes. With some bad beats and maybe tilt starting to rear its ugly head Moocher watched his bankroll dip to US$468. With a walk to clear the head and a dubious decision to increase the buy in level back up to US$5 Moocher had a run of in the money spots to push his bankroll back into the positive.
With FT support replying it seems a neteller transfer of minimum US$50 is required to enable a withdrawal. Hopefully with some disciplined play and a bonus to sweeten the bankroll Party Poker will prove less volatile.
Increasing stakes when you are losing to win back money is a recipe for disaster but Moocher gets away with it.....this time. Moocher feels more proper poker is played on the higher buy-in SNGs which he benefits from. Give me a bunch of all-in merchants any day of the week.

Poker is a drug
Bigshotbog
Currently in the poker equivalent of a poppy field in macao. Will he find a poker game available to keep up his excellent live record or is it all roulette, baccarrat and blackjack. Water, water everywhere yet not a drop to drink? We'll find out on his return.
Moocher
Like a cranky addict Moocher hunches over his pc trying his best to ignore Pop Idol commentary and real life. He once again fits in maybe five or was it six games. Places twice and ends US$4 down. SnG's. Drip, drip, drip they keep the addiction fueled but except for the occasional high of an elusive wins they never quite satisfy. His bankroll remains like a suitcase full of drug money - not easy to move. He can use it on site but his support emails remain unanswered and it remains stuck in Full Tilt and he still can't join the Party party.
Deadly
While others dabble with soft drugs. Deadly finds a mere 15 minutes of time and fires straight into the crack cocaine of poker, Heads-up. A few chunky hands later and with real life calling he begrudgingly logs off but US$40 to the good. What kind of habit is this where you win money? Being dealer helps. Position uber alles.
Phillberto
Cold Turkey. Well actually roast chicken and Lamcombe Pigeon. Real life calls.

Fall from Grace
No need to worry about an extended post here. SNG#3
Down to 7. Stack size around 1,450.Blinds at 50/100. A caller and a min raise in front of me. QQ in pocket. I'm all-in and happy to take down a decent pot or go heads-up with a premium hand.
I'm called by min-raiser and resigned to a quick exit when he show pocket Kings. 7th place.
SNG#4
Start off nicely. Take down a decent pot. Then get all in with KK preflop. My opponent shows down a pair of Kings on the river. No not a split pot - quads for yours truly. He called an all in with J-10o. Lolz donkaments.

Ok by now you can guess I lost the pot. But did I play it badly?
kuumies seems a good player. Tight aggressive pre-flop. Neutral-aggressive post flop.
Pre-flop: 88 is tricky hand. Should I just have called? With Kuumies on the button I think there would be a very good chance of facing a raise.
Flop: Other than hitting the set it couldn't get much better. With a check from kuumies a continuation bet is a must.
Facing a min-raise: Ok time to work out his range. Higher pair, - yes. Hitting trips is also a possibility I guess. Flush draw? Possibly but I think he would only call with Aks and possibly AQs. Ak off? Maybe. Taking a stab at the pot, hoping to fold my AK, AQ that missed.
Looking at it now his min-reraise was effectively an all-in. My choice was then all-in or fold. In the end I couldn't fold an overpair.
With the Ac ensuring his entire range hits I of course lost the pot. I guess the decision depends on whether Ako is in his range.
I'll post what he had later. Any comments?

With bigshotbog in gambling Mecca Macau and Deadly sticking to poker-lite for at least one only night Moocher alone joined phillberto at the virtual tables.
After a beer enhanced ferry trip and a stop off at the Waterfront perhaps the end result is somewhat predictable for phillberto. -US12$ for two SNG's . However with two cash games played along side the tourney tables chalking up two hours game play between them did he dig himself in deeper or redeem his losses? I'll post the big pot hands later today and add results tomorrow.
Moocher's funds remain tied up in Full Tilt so he continues to try his hand at the US$2 SNG's there. An early success gives him confidence enough to step up to the US$5 buy ins. With another success racked up there and showingUS$15 profit he mixes up play between US$2 and another US$5 game playing both 6 man and 9 man SNG's. He fails to place in four games before winning his final game to recover the losses. Up to US$518. Nice work.
Albeit a very small sample size Moocher seems to be taking a high % of first places with an ITM (in the money) ratio of circa. 40%.
This compares to Phillberto whose even smaller sample size show 60%ITM and bigshotbog keeping his 100%ITM record primarily by disappearing to Macau.

SNG #3
Ok rather long tourney summary today.
So in the first couple of rounds I usually stick to premium hands only but the table is playing so passive I decide to call with KcQc in middle position. Interested in any comments on this one. Should I just have folded or should I have raised? What about the river. Was a call in order or was I right to lay down?

The pot sized bet to me smelled of being a KJ hitting the straight. Could also well be a Ax slow playing and hoping to get called by a hand just like mine. Of course he could have just hit Qx and I was ahead but if that were the case would he really pot it? I thought unlikely and fold.
Next hand I play I take down blinds of 200/100 raising KJs on the button which more than makes up for folding everything else at smaller blinds.
Jump a few levels and I'm in danger of going like Greencorn's uncle as mentioned in Super System II (ie being blinded to death apparently). With blinds at 200/400 I go all in with A9s and happy to take it down uncontested. Stack back to 2040.
My stack drops to 1040 and I'm going all in before the blinds hit again for sure. UTG+1 I get 10 10. That will do. Very loose Big stack (Sweety7,000) calls in the BB with - guess what - 34o. I double up despite her having thirteen outs on the river - 34o! what a sweety she is. Stack = 3,080.
Not a big one but I'll post this hand.

My buddy Sweety7000 is now going all in an awful lot so as last to act I feel pretty confident I'm ahead with AJ. I hit my A but she hits two pairs with K9 and it takes a river flush to keep me in the game.
We are down to four and the tiny stack gets called and checked down by the other two guys despite them both hitting on the flop (top pair and second pair). Good play guys ensuring we all end up ITM.
With blinds getting high I get more and more aggressive and end up with over 11,000 chips without showing down a hand. The other two stacks stay very close to each other so I can't try bullying the middle stack though. I end up in a race with one of them K9s for me vs 88 and I hit a King.
Now heads up with a stack of 14,060 and three quarters of the chips at the table. Looking good.
After 6 hands QQ shows up for me. I just call big blind and get put all in and smile. He turns over K10o but the K hits. Bah.
With stack sizes now reversed he calls my A8s all-in K2 off and hits his king. Game over.
+US$9 and got my money in ahead both times. I'll settle for that.

How does Tuesday sound for a little live action? Bank holiday and all. Bigshot, I think six would be a minimum for live - ideally more as a few will drop out if they lose a buy-in or two. Maybe target eight and expect a no-show and a quick felting for someone to keep it cosy.
Party Pooper?
As I was playing my Party Poker SNG I decided to open up Poker Edge web-page.
www.poker-edge.com
This provides an online player database across a number of sites including Party. I plugged in the names of my opponents. It recognised four of my nine opponents. Two were graded fish and one was a rock tightie. Interestingly the rock started off playing loose in the first dozen hands or so but I guess he must have caught some cards early as he soon tightened up. One of the fishes though must have read a book or two recently as he played tight aggressive poker.
Anyway in the middle of my game a Warning box flashed up from Party accusing me of running software on my computer that gave me an unfair advantage. I'm assuming this wasn't Poker Office so I closed down my web browser at Poker Edge. Was still a bit surprised as its hardly software I was running - just accessing a web-page. Mmmm. Now I remember a sanction being threatened but I closed the warning window and can't quite recall how it was worded.
The paid for version of Poker edge gives you a real time overlay of all players on your table. Would certainly be good for aiding game selection. Deadly3 you still thinking of trying this out? I'd check what sites actually ban players using it first.

Stakes - snakes and ladders
Last night seems to have involved a little level jumping for most.
Toe in the Water
Moocher seems to be the one putting in the table hours at the moment only calling it quits at 1am. Still unable to clear his US$500 from Full Tilt he decided to test the waters at a US$2 Sit n Go. The phone rings shortly after with tales of victory at a 6 man table.
Brimming with confidence he plunges into the slightly deeper waters of US$5 SNG before splashing back shorewards with a mouthful of salty water. He rakes up at least a half dozen games before bringing his bankroll back into the black with another victory at a US$2 9 man SNG table.
Swimming with Sharks
Deadly 3 reads the following advice from Brian Townsend (sbrugby) when asked what stakes he would play if he only had a bankroll of US$1000....
"I would start with 100NL and play until I had 2K and jump right into 200NL being willing to move back down if I dropped $800. I would then play 200NL until I had 3500 and then I would play 400NL again dropping down if I had a little downswing. I would continue
this process all the way to 100/200. I think this is an interesting question, and I feel that with 1000 dollars I could be playing 50/100 NL in 4 weeks with 200K. This would be very ambitous and require alot of poker everyday (probably 3K+ hands a day). But I still think it could be done. ( I don’t know if I want to try to prove it tho). "
Deadly3 with a bankroll of US$1,100 takes this advice to heart and plunges into the shark infested 100NL table to clear the party clearance requirements. He emerges with limbs intact and withdraws from party. Any big hands Deadly?
Back on the horse
After his recent big fall Bigshotbog decides it is time to climb back up on the horse. He avoids the volatile stallion of party's US$22 SNG's and opts for the more docile US$11 little brothers. Still unpacking boxes he rides that pony home in third place securing an in the money spot and now heads off to Macau to enjoy the hospitality of Steve Wynn. Will he venture near the tables?
Splashing about the SNG's
If it aint broke.... I decide to stick with the US$6 SNG at party and manage to fit in just one game. I'll post a few of the key hands later today. Another ITM (in the money) finish though making it four in a row.

DAY ONE
Moocher seems to be champing at the bit waiting to get his hands on his new-bankroll. He plays to 3am on a school night and continues to build his mini-bank-roll as he waits on the $500 transfer clearing.
Deadly3 - Agrees to join phillberto in a poker-lite week after a hectic poker month. After kindly enabling the transfer of funds to moocher in an Al Qaida style money chain designed to avoid paying Neteller fees Deadly grinds out two .05/.10 tables to try and reach the clearance requirements party sets after receving an inter account transfer. Heads off to bed a tired man and just breaking even.
Phillberto - Also looking at playing a lot less this week but somewhat lacking resolve. Phillberto Decided to switch to a US$6 SNG for a change.
Competition proves tougher than normal with Poker Office (poker tracker software) giving all four remaining players a wizard's hat meaning all are tight aggressive players.

After my weak flop bet SwedeChris decides to put me to the test. If I had an ace I'm sure I would have bet stronger with a flush draw showing. A real tough decision. Ace is very possible but I think a lower pocket pair, a Jack or even a flush draw are all possibilities too. With so much of his stack already in and my weakness a bluff is also a possibility. I call and hope.

Playing very tight I've kept my starting stack mostly intact. With the blinds up to 200/400 I can hear Dan Harrington whispering to get it all in when it is folded to me in the small blind and again when folded to me on the button - neither is called. Blinds go up to 400/800 and I land pocket queens. I get called by KJ. K hits on the turn but a heaven sent queen arrives on the river. Beautiful.
Then my AQ hits on the flop and is called by pocket 3's (!) and suddenly I'm big stack. I finish with a flourish.

Acorns, Saplings and Mighty Oaks
A low stakes poker blog from the South China Seas.
Even the mightiest oak starts off as a humble acorn. This blog will track the bankrolls of those hailing from the island of ghost teachers. That is Lamma, a little backwater island offering its natives a respite from the hubbub of Hong Kong, from where now springs a budding poker community. Watch acorns sprout, saplings wither and die and perhaps the tilt induced felling of a mighty oak as bankrolls ebb and flow.
We join the action as the US$1,000 challenge (first to get their bankroll to US$1,000+) is won by a short neck. New players now join the fray and discussions are underway as to what the new challenge will be.
The cast:
Phillberto - The author and winner of the US$1,000 challenge. Managed for the most part playing .05/.10 No limit texas Holdem. Bonus chasing has been the key ingredient of his early success. Taking in bonii from Empire poker, Ladbrokes, Piraya poker and Party to bloat his bankroll. A 'loan' to a new cast member means the current bankroll sits at US$530 as of yesterday.
Deadly3 - Lost out by a whisker on the US$1,000 challenge. Playing .25/.50 Heads-up currently and cutting a merry dash. Poker Edge has him down as 'Da Bomb', a rating he shares with Brian Townsend, Devilfish, Hellmuth, Matusow etc.
Currently leading the bankroll stakes with a start of the week weigh-in around US$1,100.
Bigshotbog - Party he plays and Party he stays. Sit n go is his game and US$22 stakes his current buy in of choice. Having a bad run at the moment. A house move, watching his new flat screen TV and being prone to multi-tasking while playing are all possible explanations for the dip in form.
Last week saw his bankroll dipped to a long time low of US$270.
Moocher666 - Having delusion of grandeur of taking the internet poker world by storm Moocher quickly donated the majority of his original hundred dollars deposit to his first opponents. Stopping the slide with just a dollar to his name he has now started grinding out results at the lowest of low stakes. After being staked by phillberto his bankroll is now about to jump to in excess of US$500 and with a bonus chasing plan in place can he now build his own bankroll and make amends for his initial hiccough?
Bankroll: around US$510
We'll add other cast members as they get involved and also cover the occasional live game that comes together.
I'll post any interesting hands you care to send to me. For analysis, boasting or crying over the latest bad beat.
