Beer and Poker

Back from the Lamcombe/Waterfront I played and won a couple of $2 HU games and then sat in for a $5+0.50 9 handed SNG. Got off to a good start with a tricky hand. I reraised JJ out of position and was called by two players. One very loose and the other solid. The board was 884. I check-raise allin and both call. I really don't know where I stand. Not sure if it was a good play or not. The good player had checked behind so I thought it slightly more likely he had an AK, AQ type hand. My hand held up okay against AK and some rubbish. I had a chunck of my stack taken of me when holding top pair and an inside straight draw in a multi-way pot. The river brings a straight for me and a flush. I faced a raise of $150 into a pot of close to 2K so called and lost to a King flush.
Get outplayed thereafter and settle for second place while Moocher railbirds and enjoys the whupping.
Made to it to heads-up against a solid player who made my life difficult as he whittled my stack down. Sober I would have beat hmi of course!

Frankenstein and Poker4Ever (or at least until the bonus comes)

Not a poker heavy week for me.
I dabble in some $2 heads-up. Win some, lose some, pay some rake. With some wine and a black russian inside me and a heads-up warm-up with Deadly inside me I let Mrs Phillberto try her hand at the Stars $2 HU games. With me in an advising role I soon guide her to defeat. In the second game on a flop of QJ6 rainbow I advise her to push over the top of his raise with her open ended straight draw. He calls with QJ and its only then that I notice alcohol has taken its toll and its merely K8 she holds. The runner runner miracle cards don't show and Mrs Phillberto looks accusingly at me. I sneak off and play two $5 HU games and manage to win them both making amends for my earlier lapse.

Saturday morning sees me return to Poker4ever. Its starts well for me when I am rewarded for a stupid play with AQ. I push allin over the top of a second pot sized bet and face two pairs. I connect with a second Queen to get lucky. I then end up chasing two nut flush draws - both without pot odds and with questionable implied odds. Both connect only to find out on both occasions that two pairs have also been upgraded into full houses too.

I jostle in a heads-up battle with one guy for 40 minutes and when a third player joins we are where we started. The third guy folds to aggression on the first couple of hands and following a raise from me (board 237) and 2/3 sized pot bet he decides to reraise to $7. I've connected with trips 3s on a flushing board so I just push. He calls with 88 and is well behind. Until an 8 lands on the river that is.

Steaming a little I raise a little light with 78o from the cutoff ande get a call from my HU adversary. I get the perfect flop of T96. He leads into me so I reraise and he comes over the top allin. I suspect he has trips but with the nuts it is an easy call. I stay ahead and felt him.

I call it quits after that. Far down on my high water mark but still ahead and 1/6th of the way to clearing a $200 bonus.

Elsewhere Deadly leaves the psychological rough and tumble of the poker table for the physical dangers of the football field. Defending a corner he suddenly ends up on the floor. When he gathers his senses. The ball is in the net and his modelling career is jeopardised as he sports a nasty gash. Several hours of public queuing later and five stitches later Lamma's Frankenstein lookalike plods towards a ferry-bound taxi.

Deadly performance on track as we have come to expect. A solid month and should hit the 3K mark by the end of September on current form.
Phillberto falls just shy of his monthly average but still heading in the right direction.
Moocher records a break even month. Is this the start of the turnaround? With a big MTT tourney win cancelling out three losing weeks it is hard to say.
Bigshot comes has a couple of decent MTT scores and comes close to an even bigger win but is still on a downhill trajectory. (Correction - he under-reported his roll and adjustments have now been made - a winning week after all.
Lamma_Jim joins late in the month and without any significant action its impossible to read anything at all into his online debut month.

Roll over Beethoven and tell Tchaikovsky the news.

Final Tables - common as muck

Moocher takes the honours, playing live at Drop. He is first out though and fails to make the final.

I played for a bit after work waiting on football training to start. I still can't put a consistant run together at $2+0.20 SNGs so decided to register for Poker4Ever eventually. The traffic is absolutely terrible and I struggled to find a game. Play is also slow so I signed up for a full ring game .05/.10 blinds and another with .025/.050 blinds. There are no restrictions on what your buy-in is though so I plopped $40 down at the smaller stakes tables and $50 down at the other. I also stuck $40 down at a 0.10/.020 SH table and eventually had a Croatian join me for some HU action. I lost a big pot against him early on but soon won it back plus some. I enjoyed taking his cash as he was taunting me for bad play for some reason. I would have won more because I hit a flush on the turn and he hit trip Aces on the river. Unfortunately not being used to the site I timed out as I was considering my bet size on the river. With a $4 pot already built and him only having $12 behind I think a check raise would have felted him (he showed me at the end obviously pleased with his cunning slow-play!).

Unfortunately this combined with the fact I wasn't seeing any cards at the other tables I recorded only a $3 win. I can't say I like the site but it is apparently very soft. The bonus has no time limit so maybe I can clear it on Thursday evenings after work whilst waiting on footie training (where I don't have Poker Tracker).

NEWSFLASH - managed a 30 minute lunchtime sesh. Played with 50 bucks on a .025/.50 table and the standard was dire. I folded, folded, folded as they all bluffed and rebluffed each other. I decided to wait for a hand and expected to get paid off. I raised with KJ from the small blind and was called. KXX flop and try to bet $3 but get timed out and auto-folded. Doh! Realise I'm playing on a speed-table. I shrug it off. When it happens again with another flop that I connected with I'm a tad pissed off and $12 down! It's tough deciding a bet and getting it made in time! Next time I raise AKs to $3 from the Big blind with three callers. One calls. I bet pot with a complete calling station. He calls again and a second club lands to give me a flush draw. He is playing short and has a pot sized amount left. With fold equity (having folded every hand for ten minutes) and a good draw I put him allin. He calls. The river blanks and.....I take down a nice pot with A high. Muppet!

A few hands later I see a raise from Overbluffing idiot. Muppet calls in the BB. Flop A Q J rainbow. Overbluffing idiot bets. Muppet calls. Turn is a low card. Bluffy goes allin and Muppet calls. River another nothing card. Showdown.
Bluffy: 34o
Muppet j6o to take down the pot!

Bluffy reloads and starts to go all in for 10 bucks. He gets called first time. A4 for Bluffy against Kojak. He wins. He goes allin again and is called by the same guy. A3 this time against KQ and KQ wins. Bluffy disappears.

My next opponent went allin on a board of 6644 and was called. He had the 4 against his opponents 6. 'I knew you had it' he said!

A few hands later he raised under the gun for 1.75. He is a habitual pot limper so this stands out a little. I have pocket Aces however and reraise. He pushes and I call. AA v KK...kaching! He only had $10 unfortunately. Three good players then arrived and all seemed to know each other and were talking about their MTT results so I ducked out for lunch. They all matched my $75 so it would have been an interesting deep stack session with other numpties at the table. Do you announce your good hands or disguise them?

$25 bucks up but it could have been a lot more.

Poker4Ever. Horrible software. Terrible availability/game selection. Worst of all though. The players!

Fourth Season of High Stakes Poker - Prop bet anyone?

The premiere episode features poker pros Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, Todd Brunson and Mike “The Mouth” Matusow.

The newcomers on the premiere episode include Brian Brandon from Chicago, Antonio Salorio from Florida, and poker pro Haralabos Voulgaris from Los Angeles.

HSP IV increases the minimum buy-in to $500,000 on Monday, Nov. 5 to make this season the richest ever on GSN.

The line-up includes Patrik Antonius, David Benyamine, Doyle Brunson, Eli Elezra, Sam Farha, Jamie Gold, Barry Greenstein, Phil Hellmuth, Jennifer Harman and Daniel Negreanu, as well as newcomers Brandon Adams, Mike Baxter, Phil Galfond, Guy Laliberte and Bob Safai.

If your player ends up allin against another person's player and you lose then you fork over HK$50.

OK we'll give Bigshot the first choice and he of course goes for Sammy Farha.
Moocher has to take Mike Matasow.
I'll stick $50 in for Mrs Phillberto for Phil Helmuth (and increase resistance to me getting to watch it!).
The 'Ol Grandaddy of Poker for Deadly?
I'll plump for Barry GreenStein, Jen Harman and Daniel Negreanu but willing to give any up if anyone objects.

Who is in?
