Live fae Glesgae

Whilst back in Scotland I decided to take my chances at a Casino in Glasgow. Went along for a Sunday afternoon deep stack tourney. Fifty players signed up and I went to my assigned table at 2pm and 15,000 chips. A couple of rounds in I had a chance to assess a couple of the looser players. I then found pocket Queens in late position and stuck in a raise. One caller and I was up against a wee Weegie who seemed to be loose. The flop came AAx. It’s checked to me and I opt just to check behind. I second low card and I make a three quarter bet now when it’s checked to me again. He calls so I suspect he has connected or has an overpair. With no draws on board I’m pretty much convince I’m ahead here and bet out on the river and get a call. He shows an overpair (Pocket 9s) and I take down my first pot.

Blinds doubled to 200/400 Next hand I raise in late position preflop to 1,600 with pocket Aces. My raise is called by a young Glasgow ned, the second of the two loose players. Flop is a very nice A55 with no draws to speak of. Again in position I decide to check behind. A second Ace giving me quads so I bet out. I get called and a Jack on the river I decide to bet 5,000. He doesn’t think too hard before calling and shows pocket Queens giving me a nice pot.

Its not long before I see action again. Again in late position I see Cowboys. It’s raised in front of me by my first opponent. I make it 5,000. He comes over the top with a shove which I snap call. He has AK and I avoid an Ace to felt him and take my stack up to 40,000 making me chip leader.

I then don’t see any cards for a while (fair enough really). I raise once with Pocket 9s and get called. I miss on the flop and the caller bets into me. With two overcards on the board I fold. I manage to get some of my folded blinds back making a play on the button in a limped pot making a big raise. Having folded for a while I’m believed by everyone.

I make it to the first break with 35,000 in chips. Still chip leader and players starting to disappear. I avoid any major confrontations for a while. Eventually we take a second break and we’re into the last two tables. I’m now just an average stack and realise I need to start getting involved in some pots. I raise to 5,000 in mid position with Pocket 6s. I get called by the player with position on me and the Big Blind. Flop comes T76 with two spades. With 16,000 in the pot the Big Blind bets 5,000. A pretty weak bet I note. Folding is not an option and I suspect he may well be on a draw or a weak pair. With another player to act after me I need to make a big bet to discourage him drawing. A pot sized bet will commit me for sure so I just get it all-in. A fold and the big blind calls with 89 for the straight. I miss all my outs and I’m out in 18th place.

I subtract the amount from my bankroll ($66) but enjoyed the experience, felt I played well and didn’t feel out of my depth. Certainly not the same standard as the Asian Poker Open.
