I was planning to have a night off but with Mrs P feeling under the weather and opting for an early night and the kids in bed my hand was forced. I tentatively fired up a 40eNL table and hid a flurry of good hands. Aces were coming every second hand. I was reraising with AK preflop and forcing laydown and low pairs were hitting trips. UNfortunately I wasn't getting action and did survive an allin being called by a short stack with us both on AK. I also got allin with another short stack with an open ended straight draw with us both having the same draw. I think my willingness to get in with 'gambling' hands was noted and as a result I got a call in a reraised pot on a 9xx after pushing with my rockets for a pot sized bet. It took him an age to call so I was confident I was ahead and up against a lower high pair. But my bad luck returned and he had called with 9T and hit a second 9 to put be back at a deficit. I then proceeded to take 2/3rds of my losses back two hand later when I reraised on the turn with top pair and a flush draw and got called and then was paid off after a river raise.
I continue hitting big pairs but don't get action. I even fold 3s preflop which would have hit quads on a very high octane board that two players got allin on.
I then get some action when I'm reraised preflop by a very tight player who is a complete rock. I have his reraising range as very small maybe QQ+ and not even sure about AK. I opt just to call and the flop comes KQx. I don't have to think too hard when he puts me allin as I felt him.
My favourite hand of the night involved some three way action. I see the flop from the big blind with Q6. I hit top and bottom pair on the flop, and raise but get two callers. The flush draw hits on the turn and I'm worried. I check but only have to call a 2.40e bet to see the next card and try and boat up. A beautiful six arrives and I opt to check it with two aggressive players behind me. My first oppenent makes a small bet of 3.40e considering the pot odds. He only has 9e left so I put him allin. I actually didn't have the pot odds to call to boat up against him but I did for the other opponent so felt I was priced in given that he may not have had the flush after all. He calls with his nut flush and I take down a big pot. I finish over a buy-in up and make amends for one of the two disastrous Sunday sessions.
