Cashing Out

Looks like I’ve missed the deadline for transferring cash from Neteller. One poker site is being excessively slow at allowing me to cash out (Pokerroom LA). Once I receive that payment I’ll withdraw, probably as a cheque, all the trapped Neteller funds. I should be slightly over HK$11,000 to the good depending on fees. If combined with money already squirreled away and moneys owed that should take me to HK$25,000 withdrawn. Making me 50% of the way to my 2008 target of cashing out HK$50,000K.

It will leave my online roll pretty slim at US1,191 but it should be enough to deposit to cover any bonus offers and should be plenty to withstand even the most brutal variance at 25NL.

Another winning session

Another two hour session last night. Hampered by my laptop power connection finally giving up on me and having to switch to a desktop that is reaching the autumn years in terms of its useful life.

I switched over from the laptop $40 up but then had to play blind for 20 minutes due to Poker Tracker problems and ended up dropping $13 of my gains before realizing I needed to reboot and just quitting.

On one table there were a frequent limpers so I bumped it up with QQ and made medium bets on a rag flop with QQ to take down a pot from 88.

Ten minutes later and five limpers to me in the Big Blind. I raise to $2 and Under the Gun shoves for $22 more to me. I pause to give the impression I’m considering it but make an easy fold pretty sure he has Aces.

Thanks for the stack, fella.

One more session and I have enough points to buy Harrington on Cash Games Volume 2. Still not finished Volume 1. I hope it give my game a further boost.

I'm now at 60% winning sessions (laptop stats). Now tracking to be very hot on Deadly’s heels come Monday with a $145 bonus and a decent weekend session if I can fit one in.

My new tactic is to get up before the wife and kids and then make the breakfast when they get up. I get brownie points and FPP star points!

Rockets

Managed two single hour sessions yesterday.

I laid down A4 on an AxxAx board facing a 3/4 river bet. Will have another look at it again to see if it was a good laydown or not.

The two stack decisions I had to make were pretty straightforward. Facing a raise and caller from the Big Blind I bumped it up to 4.75. The original raiser folded but the cold-caller stuck around. A flop of rags and I bet $7 into the $12 pot. He flat calls again and then I push on the river with a very uncoordianted board. He calls and show 86 for a single pair of 8s on the flop. Ship it!

Rockets come around again in the second session and this time its a raiser, min raiser and reraiser. I decide not to mess around and just push. The reraiser calls and shows AK. Sure its not behind anything other than Aces or Kings by much but what else was I going to have. I think folding Kings there might not have been a terrible play given the action.

So another $47 to the good and I continue to take advantage of Deadly absence from the felt by eating into his considerable lead. Another few solid winning sessions and my $145 Stars bonus and I'll be hot on his heels.

My win rate remains at around 12.7PTBB/100 and I keep my true win rate in excess of $15 an hour(plus bonus).

Silver Status

Received an email from Poker Stars saying I've reached Sliver Star status and now earn bonus points at an increased rate of 50%. Still just means a measly 0.75c an hour at 25NL though.

Bonii

I've been toiling away at possibly the slowest bonus ever I've had to clear. Having failed to clear a U$130 bonus at Stars before my summer vacation I then signed up for a $145 bonus. It clears at the exceedingly modest rate of 0.56c per hour at 25NL giving me an hourly bonus rate of just over $2 with my current multi-tabling ratio.

Poker Stars also rates at D+ in Bonus Whores Game Quality Rankings meaning its one of the tougher sites around at this level.

I'm now approaching the dilemma of where to go for my next bonus. Poker Host is attractive with average game qualite and a bonus that should amount to around US$5.70 an hour. Only problem is the max bonus is $2,000 and you only have 3 months to clear it so I'd need to be playing 30 hours a week to clear it! Obviously not possible. At 50NL I could clear it playing 17.5 hours a week which is still a bit ambitious. I think it may be holding back on doing this until the circumstances suit me better but bonus terms are usually short-lived.

Eurolinx offer a similar deal (US$1,000 with 2 months) but its an all or nothing bonus. Poker Host at least pays out in 10% installments. Even at 50NL that is 14.5 hours a week which is above my current rate of hours.

Another option is Sun Poker which offers a special Moneybookers bonus (which I'm about to switch to) which will work out at $9 per hour for the first $100 and $6 for the second. The problem is the Game Quality is D+ and it is a network where I have struggled on previously.

It does have the appeal of hopefully adding $100 on to any winnings I can muster after a normal weeks play.

Decisions, decisions. I think as I've been playing at a tough site in Stars I'll go with Sun Poker and see if my new improved poker playing can enable me to beat a crypto and take down a quick bonus.

With three players not involved in any action it was left to Moocher and myself to add to the Lamma Exchange total. Although not disappointed to be chalking up a three figure gain I do feel I should have done a little bit better. Moocher continues on his climb into positive figures for the year and seems to be creeping up the buy-ins as well. Bigshot having returned from Nam yesterday is set to get back to the tables although may have to register a previously unreported deficit from last week before he gets to work.

Just been browsing though Moocher's results for the week. He takes down a couple of $7+0.70 45 man tournaments then progresses up to the $12 equivalent. He manages a best position of 3rd for a healthy score but an otherwise dry Sunday means his gains for the week are not more impressive. With one try at a $12 man 180 tourney he is opening up the possibility of a very nice score which could instantly rocket him into pole position.

The week that was

Got off to a poor start to the week with a couple of losing sessions. I even started an early morning Saturday session of with a couple of unfortunate beats for stacks.
First was KK v KTs in a reraised pot and he hits T and a flush draw. We get it all-in with him being a favourite to AA and QQ but a slight dog to my Kings but hits his flush. I also get an allin called with an open ended straight draw twice and both connect.

I reach a low mark of $100 down on the week but then hit a hot streak and take down a run of big pots and finish the week up.

On my laptop my PPTBB/100 is now at 12.7 after 5,000 hands. My target is to get to 10,000 keeping it above 10PTBB/100 which should ensure I average at $US15/hour.

I did have some hands on my Desktop as well which don't seem to have had much in the way of impact.

I withdraw to Neteller all my funds from various poker accounts. Two are through already. Bugsy's club I'm still waiting on and PokerLA are asking for various forms of ID. With two days to go until closure it's a race against the clock.

Typhoon-tastic

Well it seems there might be a typhoon heading our way and hopefully an opportunity to whip up a storm at the tables with it. Suspect I may be tempted to have a Typhoon party beer or two tonight which might limit my playing opportunities.

Posted my first losing session last night for a while. I'd taken down $50 in the previous session keeping my recent tally at over $20 an hour. I switched to the PC and was a $15 up in no time.
I then had called got 70% of my stack in pre with KK only to see a Kxx flop. The rest went in but an A hit on the river. I was a big dog so I can't complain. A few other pots don't go my way and I lose $24 before checking out.

Moocher manages to win his second $6+0.60 45 man tourney to bring his roll up to a new high-water mark.

Don - Off the blocks soon?

Moocher reports a good week despite me having to knock some money off for miscalculating his starting point.

A rip-roaring week for me taking me to a new high-water mark after six months of leaking. Still waiting on other results. Apologies to Moocher. I've been using the wrong Starting total for you so $40 dropped off your running total this week.

I managed a grand total of 2,334 hand of 25NL over the course of the weekend. My initial 2 hour session at 30PTBB/100 was always going to be possible to maintain though. I started off with a session on Saturday morning. Despite getting off to a good start I had three big hands where I had to make decisions for all my chips.

I called the first to find I was against a bluff With AAxxx with AK. I made a very regrettable decision where I hit a flush on the flop of A8x with 63s. Bet, raise on the flop. Another Ace on the turn and it was check, bet, raise, reraise, min-reraise (from him) on the turn. I was left with $10 left with a $5 bet to me. I though to myself what hand could he be doing this with and I could only arrive at full-house or bigger flush. I folded to save myself $10 and he showed A4 for three of a kind. Ouch. I tell myself you have to be able to fold the best hand sometime.
The third hand I raise with AK. K8x on the flop and I decide to check to keep the pot small. He bets into me though and I call. I check the turn and he bets into me again. I prepare to fold if he fires another bullet on the river. River comes as an Ace and he fires. It’s on the same table as my other tough decisions and my timer has already run down. I decide to call with a sinking feeling but telling myself pot odds justify it. He shows 88 to take my stack.

I still finish the session $15 up but have let my PTBB/100 rate more that half to 14.

I have another session before bed having spent the night in Stanley. It starts off well with a $10 stack pushing into my Small Blind raise. Easy call with pocket rockets. I then run into a reraise from the blinds and I have Cowboys. I make a big rer-raise. He thinks and pushes and I call. A third King arrives on the river to save me from AA v KK. Very lucky indeed. I play well for the remainder of the session and run up another nice win pushing up my win-rate to 17PTBB/100 which works out at $21 per hour (plus bonus).

Still running very hot of course and probably about double my expectation. Once again a big thank you to Dan Harrington for transforming my game.

Free Money

I received from Ladbrokes a golden envelope yesterday. It contained some very realistic US$1 notes with a very realistic scrawled note on one of the ten notes saying 'Dear Philip, A lucky dollar to give you luck at the tables'.

I suspect the handwriting was computer generated and the notes are of course fake but the $10 in my account is real. I was also invited to join two tournaments that happened last week but not to worry.

Pretty cool marketing and I would scan it in if I could. Only requirement is I play one hand as far as I tell.

Just got a call from Neteller at lunch telling me to withdraw all my money. They also suggested Moneybookers as an alternative.

Neteller withdraw from Hong Kong

As a result of recent policy changes at NETELLER, members in Hong Kong will no longer be able to transfer funds with online gambling websites using the NETELLER service.

Important dates

August 26, 2008: Transfers to online gambling sites will be disabled
Sep 9, 2008: Transfers from online gambling sites will be disabled

Things got a lot more difficult. It seems Moneybookers is the way to go. A little bit of financial jiggery-pokery required to avoid fees. I'm hoping Stars will oblige by allowing withdrawals directly to Money-bookers (normally they insist it goes out to the same source you deposited).

Some sites do allow you do withdraw to a different source so still possible to move funds around for free from site to site.

Pride before a fall?

My turn in fortune continues.

I’m not only very pleased with the results of my latest adjustments but now also pretty comfortable playing 4 tables and not feeling it impacts on my decision making at all. I returned from my break in Scotland and was able to over-turn a deficit at Stars after 8,500 hands. I’m now approaching 15,000 hands and turned that around to +5PTBB/100. Prior to my turn-around I had been squeaking along at 2PTBB/100.

My target is to be winning at 10PTBB/100 at 25NL 4 tabling which I have been doing in the past couple of weeks. That equates to $15/hour without bonus. That would work out at over 18.7K(HK$) a month playing 40 hours a week. Bonus should work out at a further HK$6,000. A lot of hard work for a meagre wage but pull that same performance off at 50NL and you are looking at 50K a month.

Readers of the blog will know that this kind of thinking normally triggers a down-turn in my fortunes.

Short stacks - me and them

It’s coming to the end of one of sessions. I see a table with some big pots being played. Averaging at $7 per hand. I decide to opt for a short stack strategy until I get a feel for where the aggression is coming from.

The Hammer. Not unexpected but should I just have checked it down. He is capable of making a play here given his earlier aggression but I doubt it. I’m thinking straight or trips here. But I also think KK could be a real possibility.

Fighting out of the Red Corner

As part of my new strategy and with confidence revitalized after taking Harrington’s advice on board I sat down at the first of what would become 4 tables of 25NL.
My very first hand at the table….

Seat #1 is the buttonSeat 1: Quexilonn ($40.05 in chips)
Seat 2: koekie1986 ($23.70 in chips)
Seat 3: Phillberto01 ($25 in chips)

themightybuk: raises $1.25 to $1.50
It’s a big raise and one I suspect doesn’t want a call. I consider folding as I really don’t want to play out of position with no info on my opponent.
Quexilonn: folds
koekie1986: folds
fumitu joins the table at seat #5
Phillberto01: raises $3.50 to $5
themightybuk: raises $14.20 to $19.20 and is all-in
He shoves and I can’t really call. He could easily have it. I don’t know the table dynamics so I have to let it go.
Phillberto01: folds
Uncalled bet ($14.20) returned to themightybuk
themightybuk collected $10.10 from pot
themightybuk: shows [7h 7s] (a pair of Sevens)
Well I was behind but not enough to justify the foldl. It was a foolhardy move though as it was pretty likely I had a big hand here.

Round 1 to themightybuk

Five minutes later and I face the same raise. This time I have a hand I can see through my aggression with.

Not much he could do there. I land the knock-out blow and he is left with a short stack that he loses in the next round.

I manage to climb my stack up to $110 at that table before calling it a night. With another table breaking up when I reach 3 buys-ins it’s a good night. $85 to the good for me. This table is a bit of an exception as it differed from normal play by so much but my general game has improved so much. Its completely come together in fact and I predict many winning sessions over the next months.

Bigshot takes down a monster win

Worth a post on its own this. Bigshot after scoring a third placed win last week enters a $12 180 man tournament this week and takes that baby down.

$586 in the coffers and a stunning performance to bring himself into the red for the year. Seems to have found his form and long may the hot streak continue.

He follow it up with a tenth place finish. Surprised his Bankroll total isn't much higher to be honest.

Deadly may not be home and dry as online winner yet!

Don ???????

Deadly's Omaha experiment continues and his healthy lead takes a blow but still in no danger. Lamma_Jim doesn't venture near the tables. Bigshot spends most of the week in Korea so no major updates expected although he may well have benefited from some Harrington wisdom having bought both volumes.

Don also discovers poker literature and is throuroughly hooked and may be set to make an online debut given our failure to satiate his live game request.

I also discover my Brother 'PawkiePete' has ventured online so we may have some family tussles revealed in the blog. If anyone spots him playing online on Stars give me a shout.

Hats off to Harrington

Firstly a miscalculation in last week’s figures from me. It was a losing week instead of a winning won and I’ve now adjusted the figures.

I started of the week in a similar vein dropping another $50 and plodding on in the same fashion I have for most of the year. 4 tabling 25NL I had a small win-rate of around 2BB/100. Pretty mediocre. Winning but only just and very prone to spells of tilt that could arise months of small wins in one session.

The bonus all seem to suck these days and I can even depend on $3 an hour from those. Even tabling 25NL I’m only getting $2/hour. Bah. Starting to seem like to little reward.

Until. I did manage to accumulate enough points to order ‘Harrington on Cash Games. Vol 1’. A few chapters in and I read something that has transformed my game. As I believe this is my secret sauce its something I won’t share but I think its been costing me a lot of money. Its not exactly something new I’ve learned but in a situation where I want to achieve two different things which happen to be opposites of another I’ve been consistently making the wrong decision. As a result my mistakes have been big ones. I really think I’ve cracked it and this could make a huge difference to my 25NL results. I’m already up to over 3PTBB/100 and feel I can keep the momentum going. Its not a great week as I had to contend with recovering from dropping a few buy-ins but I am back.

Also fund a stranger sitting on my left at a table last night. Took me a few rounds to notice that Deadlydp had thrown his hat in the ring. We both managed to increase our stacks. Deadly felting a shortie with trips and me doing likewise with Top2 (A7) in a limped pot with another shortie.

Felted an aggressive player with AA on another table to double up. He bought back in but had dropped to $17 and a round later I had AA again facing an early position raise. I bump it up to $4 and he calls. I stick in another $5 with 9xx and no draws. He calls and a 10 lands. He has $8 left so I stick it in and he calls with T9 to bust me back. In another preflop dual I get $10 in pre-flop with KK and a medium stack. He has less than a pot sized bet on a low flop. He pushes and I call only to see a Killer Queen land on the turn. Despite less than perfect results in favourble situations I still manage to record a reasonable winning session.

Deadly despite winning at my 25NL table was faring worse at Omaha and dropped a $100 whilst stalking me.

Live at the Waterfront

Cash from Wallets was emptied on the table for some 4 way action with Deadly, Don, Sham and myself involved in some drunken poker. Not much in the way of showdowns and nobody sober enough to know how much they started with. I believe I went home with more than I started with and managed dinner and a skinful so happy enough.

I wonder if there are any professional poker alcoholics out there. People that play poker professionally in order to support a drinking habit?

Vist AA when you win and GA when you lose.

Deadly loses a big three way pot playing Omaha after a flush lands on the river to re-outdraw him. A corrected total for Bigshot as I failed to recall a second buy-in of US$500 leaving him in negative territory. He did report a $186 win for a third placed finish in a $16 buy-in at a 45 man turbo SNG this week so perhaps fighting his way towards a positive total.

Moocher recovers after a bad week last week but is back playing $3+0.30 1 table SNGs. He also keeps having a try at the freeroll for the APPT. Keeps negotiating big fields only to fall twice at 32nd in his quest to finish Top20. Ouch.

I started the week with a bad session erasing a significant chunk of my earlier gains from the previous days. Plodded on and managed to regain it all and then take some winning for the week primarily in a drunken 4 table 10NL stint in the wee sma' hours. Not often you wake up with hangover and money in your wallet and extra online. ***Disclaimer my earlier losses were bigger and despite the late rally it was still a small losing week.***

Drunk and aggressive - who says its a bad thing. Three street bluffs. Turn aggression. Overbets to confuse. A whole new set of strings to my bow.
